Lhakpa Norbu Sherpa

Lhakpa Norbu Sherpa Director of KCC English Program; Assistant Director of KCC Nepal

Lhakpa Nurbu is a leader on KCC Nepal’s leadership team. Originally from Namche, he has been working for Mountain Troposopic for 32 years. While he started out as a Sirdar, taking care of staff and logistics, after 2000 Lahkpa was promoted to “Trip Leader.” In this role, which is usually given to western guides, he is tasked with taking care of clients. Lhakpa has been with KCC since 2006 and he got involved with the organization through Laila Bishop, founder of the KCC English Program. While the English program started out as conversational, Lhakpa was instrumental in transforming it to include key terms used in the mountain tourism industry (safety, medical, plants, geography, culture, etc.). Outside of KCC, Lhakpa is a successful businessman and philanthropist. He has been involved with the Namche Youth Group as Social General Secretary, doing environmental work like building toilets and cleaning trash. Lhakpa has also traveled outside of Nepal to the US for trainings with his employer and to the UK. He splits his time between Kathmandu and Namche with his wife and three daughters.
