Widow's Relief Fund
Although the Khumbu Climbing Center has helped to educate high altitude Nepalese workers, there still exists objective danger inherent to their work. The ALCF established the Widow's Relief Fund to help indigenous families when the loss of a loved one and critical wage earner has occurred.

4 tribute stamps issued by the Nepal Postal Department in 2003 to honor the late Babu Chirri Sherpa

Babu Chirri Sherpa School Project- In January 2000, ALCF partnered with Babu Chirri Sherpa to raise funds to help him fulfill his dream of building schools in the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal where he was born. Tragically, Babu died in May 2000 on the south side of Mr. Everest. ALCF plans to complete this project when stability returns to this region of Nepal. Babu Chirri was a Sherpa mountaineer and holder of several Everest related records including longest stay on the summit without Oxygen (21 hours) and fastest climb (also on Everest) of 15 Hrs. 56 minutes. Topping off his achievements was his then record-breaking 10 successful climbs (only the third person to do so).

May 2007 update -This spring, at the request of the Taksindu Social Welfare (TSW) organization in Nepal (www.taksindufoundation.org) the ALCF donated funds to put a new roof on the Chhulemu Primary School ( Shree Bal Bikash ) near Taksindu VDC.

Chhulemu is the original birth place of Babu Chiri Sherpa. He received his very basic education A B C D from this old school had a very strong wish to rebuild it. Babu's dream of rebuilding the school has been realized by the Taksindu Social Welfare (TSW) with funds from the Dzi Foundation and the ALCF.

2011- Mongolian Climbing Wall Update
CJ Carter and Ryan Minton go back to visit one of the ALCF's first projects, a climbing wall in Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia.
I'd never have guessed that our third night in Ulaanbaatar would find us sitting at a fine Mongolian restaurant with an airline CEO and the only Mongolian to climb Mt. Everest (twice, mind you), but sure enough, there we were, dining and drinking with the likes of two entertaining local characters. - Click here to read more

2002 - Mongolian Climbing Wall & School
The first ALCF project took place in July and August of 2000 in Ulaan Baator, Mongolia. Jonathon Knight, a professional wall builder, volunteered his time and expertise to oversee and implement the building of the first state-of-the-art climbing wall in Mongolia. Bozeman-based Boojum Expeditions donated their time for planning logistics and travel for ALCF staff and Boojum's Mongolian staff provided direct assistance in Ulaan Baator. In cooperation with with the Mongolian Altai Club, the ALCF opened the wall with a safety and skills course taught by Conrad Anker. Today this facility provides needed recreation for the youth of the community as well as a training wall for the Altai Club. It is a place to promote climbing and mountaineering as a way for city youth to connect with their outdoor heritage.

An email received June 30, 2004
Conrad, I was recently in Mongolia where I spent some time with Zorig Radnaabazaryn, the President of the Mongolian Central Mountain Altai Club. He took me to a demonstration at the climbing wall that you and Jenni built a few years ago. Children were competing to see who would be selected for long term training and eventually international competition. Zorig showed me pictures of its construction and then went on to say how grateful he was for the generous gift. He wanted me to pass on to you and Jenni that it is used all the time and he said that it certainly kept him busy. I trust that all is well with you and Jenni. Seeing the joy and liveliness in the middle of a sometimes depressed Ulaanbaatar made me grateful for your support of people in need.
Yours Sincerely, Sune Tamm-Buckle. PS note the attached photos.
