Khumbu Climbing Center

a project of

The Alex Lowe Charitable Foundation

Phortse village is home to the Khumbu Climbing Center where Sherpa and all indigenous Nepalis have learned technical climbing skills vital to their safety for the past fifteen years.

The KCC building now under construction will house and sustain this program for perpetuity. It will also serve as an earthquake safe community center, library and medical clinic for the village of 300.

The village of Phortse at 13000 feet in the Khumbu region of Nepal is home to generations of Sherpa climbers. It also harbors a rich diversity of wildlife including the iconic snow leopard, Himalayan Thar and the colorful Danphe, Nepal's national bird.

Help ALCF to safeguard Indigenous Nepali climbers and a village that is home to more Everest summiteers than anywhere on earth.
